Midterm related Clarifications

Hi all,

Some quick clarifications re the midterms.

1. There are 3 parts to the midterm - an MCQ part, a short answer part and a laptop based part with marks 25, 35 and 40 respectively. They will also get 30, 45 and 45 minutes respectively. Only the last part is open-book, open-notes whereas the first 2 parts are open-coursepack and cheat-sheet only.

2. Nothing not covered or mentioned in the slides will come for the exam. Look at the textbook only if some slide covered concept is unclear for any reason. The textbook is more for reference - you should know what to look for and where when faced with MKTR problems down the line at work.

3. Hypothesis testing as covered in Lecture 6  will not be covered in the midterm. SOLVER and PIVOT however are very much within bounds.

Any further midterm Q&A, kindly use the comments section below.

  1. Dear Prof

For Question1C of ice-cream survey data set, the answer provided in the solution has taken counts of the option named “blank” . This gives a total of 53.
However, there is an option field “Prefer not to say” which gives a count of 2356.
I believe the latter is the right answer…but now I am beginning to think it could be the sum of the two?
    Pls clarify.
    thanks

  2. Hi Niharika,

I agree. 'Prefer not to say' refers only to those who marked 'prefer not to say' and not to the blanks.

    Thanks for bringing this up.

  3. Dear Prof
The blog says that the exam is "open course pack" for the first part. Are class slides part of course pack?

    Thanks

  4. Hi Sanjeev,

No. The slides are not part of the coursepack for the purpose of the midterm exam.

The coursepack is also being allowed in just because it has the Chicken coop case in it.

  5. Dear Professor,
Could you please upload the quiz questions for the sake of practice. I looked around but couldnt find them on the blog.

    Thanks

  6. Dear Sir,

Are we supposed to read the Cooper case for the exam tomorrow? It is mentioned in one of your slides and besides since all that the course-pack contains in the case, I'm assuming that we should have done some preliminary analysis before tomorrow.

Shall ask the AAs to putup quiz Qs on blackboard.

    Hi Anon,

    Pls read the Coop case.

  9. Hi Vikram,

I'm not sure any solutions have been made to the sample MCQs only. I'd suggest one contact the AAs with specific doubts if any.

  10. Dear Prof,

The uploaded quiz seems to have "check all that apply"...so that means even if you check A,B in place of A,B,C one will be judged as not knowing that concept only and given a 0??? :( ! Please clarify this...

  11. Dear Prof,

Can you also share the classroom version of the slides too..currently it is a spoiler for the quick fire questions where the answers are directly given.... :)

  12. Hi Raghav,

In the MCQs, you get a 1/1 only if you correctly ID all the correct options and none of the incorrect ones.

For partially correct responses, you get either +0.25 or +0.50 depending on the extent to which you went wrong.

The classroom version of slides for lec 6 has been sent, IMHO. The quickfires are more for critical thinking etc than for exam related Q&A. So, don;t worry about them too much, I'd say.
